Yang-style Hand Forms

July 26, 2023 by Jane Walker

Our community curriculum also includes Yang-style Tai Chi where we teach standard beginner Hand Forms. These demonstration and tutorial videos are courtesy of the Deyin Taijiquan Institute, a leading UK and European Tai Chi teacher training institute, specialising in the teaching of Yang- and Sun-style Tai Chi hand and weapons forms as well as Qigong and other Chinese cultural practices (eg, Chinese brush painting, calligraphy and Mandarin language). The tutorials are presented by Master Tary Yip, one of the founders of the Institute, whose Chair is Professor and Master Li Deyin. We are grateful to Master Tary and the Deyin Taijiquan Institute for allowing us to link to these tutorial videos.

  1. Yang 8-Step – demonstration and tutorial video playlist
The playlist is divided into several separate short videos teaching the different steps and includes three run throughs of the full Yang 8-Step Form: mirror-image version, front and back views.

  2. Yang 16-Step – demonstration and tutorial video playlist
The playlist includes two run throughs, front view and back view, as demonstrated by Master Faye Yip. It also includes separate sections on pointers for accuracy of posture, gaze/where to look and focus.

  3. Yang 24-Step – demonstration and tutorial video playlist
This playlist is from a series of lectures delivered by Master Li Hui (Faye Yip), founder of the Deyin Taijiquan Institute to the European Chinese Cultural Centre. Master Li Hui/Faye is the daughter of Professor and Master Li Deyin and carries on the tradition of her family in teaching Tai Chi and Qigong, also through the British Health Qigong Association.
