Qigong energy exercises

July 26, 2023 by Jane Walker

In 2021-2022, through a grant from Sport England, Dao Lu ran 18 weeks of Qigong training when three Qigong forms were taught. These demonstration and tutorial videos were produced to accompany the training and to promote self-practice.

  1. Health Qigong Yi Jin Jing – Muscle-Tendon Change Classic
This tutorial is presented by Teacher/Lao Shi Meiling Wun, an instructor of the British Health Qigong Association, and a teacher of Tai Chi of the Deyin Taijiquan Institute.

  2. Shaolin-style Ba Duan Jin – Eight Silk Brocade
This tutorial is presented by Master/Shifu Mark Browne, 34th Generation Shaolin warrior and disciple of Shaolin Temple, and the Master of Dao Lu’s lead instructors.

  3. Health Qigong Wu Qin Xi – Five Animals Frolic
This tutorial is presented by Teacher/Lao Shi Keiko Sudo, an instructor of the British Health Qigong Association and a teacher of Tai Chi of the Deyin Taijiquan Institute.

  4. Health Qigong Daoyin 12-Movement
This Qigong form is now being taught in some of our community classes and at our Repair and Refresh South Chingford Methodist Church project. This YouTube video is from Jade Lady, posted on 18 February 2021. Her introduction to the form states: “This beautiful qigong form is thought to be around 2000 years old. Designed for illness prevention and health maintenance, it is a joy to practise. Some of the moves are very challenging so it’s important to remember that this may be unaccustomed activity for you and could make you sore if you push too hard. Be moderate in your stances: don’t go too low or wide in your horse stance; likewise don’t go too low in the cross-legged crouch if it strains too much; if overhead moves are a problem for your shoulders/neck/upper back then bring your arms further forward of the head. Modify any moves as needed and make the form feel beautiful for you.”
