This class is open to tai chi beginners.
Learn basic Chen-style tai chi movements and the Chen-style single straight sword (taijijian) form composed of 49 steps or postures.
The sword (a telecopic pointer is used in the class to simulate the straight sword) as well as other tai chi weapons (broad sword, staff/pole, fan) are used to extend the energy and intention of the body. The sword is light, supports awareness of balance and coordinated movements of the body. Like other tai chi forms, the sword form helps strenghten core and lower body muscles as well as help with wrist and hand flexibility. The form itself mixes slow graceful movements with fast and explosive energy (fa jin) movements. The form is fun to learn and attractive to perform. It is suitable for all abilities.
The class continues from an intitial free 12-week course funded by London Borough of Waltham Forest Community Chest grant.
This class is taught by Aileem Hamdan, who trained with Shifu Mark Browne. She is the founder and a senior instructor of Dao Lu.
