Festival of Tai Chi, celebrating International Tai Chi Day

Saturday, 21 March, 1:00 – 4:30pm, Leyton Sports Ground, 485 High Rd, Leyton E10 6PY. FREE event for the whole family!

21 March was designated by the United Nations as International Tai Chi Day. Join Dao Lu for an afternoon of Tai chi and Qi Gong taster sessions to celebrate this day – a Festival of Tai chi, including children’s activities: origami-folding, art/craft-making and movements.

There will be several sessions to try out tai chi or qi gong for adults and kids:

  • 1:00 – 1:15pm Arrival and sign-up for taster sessions
  • 1:15 – 1:30pm Short orientation/explanation of Tai Chi/Qi Gong, what to expect
  • 1:30 – 2:30pm Taster Session 1: Qi Gong movements for internal health benefits. Choose between Daoyin 12 Health Qi Gong (seated) or Ba Duan Jin Qi Gong (standing)
  • 2:30 – 2:45pm Break (refreshments available for a small donation)
  • 2:45 – 3:30pm Taster Session 2: Tai Chi basic hand movements. Choose between 2 styles of Tai Chi: Chen Style (standing or seated) or Yang Style (standing only)
  • 3:30 – 4:00pm Taster Session 3: Choose between Acupressure massage (seated) or Tai Chi with fan or sword (standing)
  • 4:00 – 4:30pm Taster Session 4: Choose between trying out a Tai Chi hand form (Chen Style) or weapon forms (with fan or sword)
  • 4:30pm Close

Children’s activities are ongoing throughout the afternoon. Children and parents can join the taster sessions together. There will also be children-only qi gong or tai chi taster sessions.
