Chingford Village Festival

May 14, 2015 by bootleweb

Saturday 13th June 2015, 12.00 – 20.00, on and around the Green, Station Road,
Chingford, E4

This is Dao Lu’s first time to take part in the Chingford Village Festival with two slots for Tai Chi and Kung Fu demonstrations on Saturday 13th June:

[table “” not found /]

This is straight after Dao Lu’s Tai Chi and Kung Fu for families sessions at Ridgeway Park Chingford, 14.00 – 15.15. It will be such a busy day for Dao Lu! Some of us will be walking directly from Ridgeway Park to the Chingford Village Festival, so feel free to combine both.

Performers: please meet at 3.45pm at Back Green

Volunteers: we need as many stewards as possible to keep our performance area safe from youngsters running across. Please wear uniform so we appear as members of the same group.

Uniform: Normal uniform (white for Tai Chi, orange/grey for Kung Fu (boys/men) red for Kung Fu (girls/women). If you do not have uniform, a second option is  the Dao Lu or Shaolin Daolu T-shirt (or any other white top) and black (or any other dark colour) trousers, and trainers.

Please use public transport where possible. Bus Routes: 97, 179, 212, 397, 444, 505, N38. Nearest British Rail Station: Chingford (10 minutes walk). There will be free parking (weather permitting) in the Corporation of London’s overflow car park, however we still recommend using public transport on the day.

The festival takes place on and around The Green, Chingford Assembly Hall, St Peter & Paul’s Church and Church Hall, Mornington Hall, Chingford Methodist Church and other venues in and around Station Road, North Chingford.

This year is the 21st anniversary of this well-known local festival, which last year saw record numbers of around 20,000 people flocking to enjoy everything from a craft fayre, live music including rock, pop, jazz, choral, bag-pipes etc; displays by community groups, kid’s entertainment, fun-fair rides etc.

Here is the Chingford Village Festival full programme.

Tai Chi and Dementia Awareness Week in Waltham Forest (17th – 23rd May 2015)

May 10, 2015 by bootleweb

new_24_4_Dementia_Friends_CMYK_land850,000 people in the UK have a form of dementia. 2,055 people are currently living with dementia in Waltham Forest. These figures are set to increase significantly as the population ages.

In 2012 dementia was the leading cause of death for women over 80 and was the second leading cause of death for men in this age group. Deaths from dementia and Alzheimer’s disease are increasing as people live longer, with women living longer than men.

At the centre of the Borough of Waltham Forest we are fortunate to have the tranquil and historic Lloyd Park which was extensively restored in 2012. During the week there will be a range of local activities and events for people with dementia and their carers in Lloyd Park and Gallery. These include walks, talks, exercise, Tai Chi, gardening and museum activities run by Lloyd Park Community Project, William Morris Gallery and Alzheimer’s Society Waltham Forest. Click here for the full programme.
